The Realism show at the Dalhousie Art Gallery opened Thursday, Jan. 16 2014. I am very pleased to be part of a show that has such stellar artists as Richard Davis, Yanina Movchan, Tom Ward, Susan Paterson, Tom Forrestall, Susan Gibson and Katie Melanson. Sorry I can’t mention all the names, but you’ll just have to go and see for yourself! Beautiful show – runs until March 9, 2014.

I am currently playing with an ongoing project called Fresco Secco. FS is infused cement with any kind of water based paint which adheres to the cement and becomes part of it. And from there my twist of the FS is to add oil paint on top of this once it is sealed. This enables the oil paint to actually float on top of the infused cement creating a trompe d’oeil effect (tricks your eye). Further enhanced by drop shadows, this effect reinforces the illusion.
I know there are a few people who do this in the US but not quite like this. And I wonder if anyone else in Canada is doing this? I am pretty sure I am the only person who is doing Fresco Secco and oil. If I am not, please let me know who else is out there.
